WHY I DITCHED PADS AND TAMPONS (YOU’LL WANT TO KNOW)

I'm Debbie!

I ditched a life of striving and the constant pursuit of 'more' and instead discovered peace and immense fulfilment being a wife, mother and homemaker. Your presence matters.

My Journey Of Walking Out Traditional Values In A Modern World

Honouring My Role As A Wife, Mother & Homemaker

haute-stock-photography-subscription-sage-collection-final-19.jpg

In my twenties I never thought much about what I used for my cycle. I was drawn to the advertisements on TV and pretty packaging, thinking most options were much the same.

Then about 7 years ago I had my big ‘o sh*%’ moment, and realised just how many toxic chemicals I was lathering on myself daily and how this was impacting my body as a woman.

So I did the switch from Libra to TOM’s Organic for my tampons and sanitary pads.

Yet over the years as I have embraced an even cleaner toxin free lifestyle, I have loved seeing the alternatives now available to us as women for our monthly cycle.

Before I share my finds (and fav’s) let’s have a chat about the dangers of conventional sanitary items.

Take a walk down your supermarket isle and you will see marketing messages such as more effectiveness, zero leakage and feel drier longer.

Have you ever considered what it takes to be able to make these claims? And let me tell you, they ain’t got the health of your lady bits at the forefront of their minds.

I’m talking glyphosate, chlorine, fragrances, and a surplus of other toxic chemicals, all linked to hormone disruption, infertility, cancer and birth defects. Whaaaattt?!?!?!?

Isn’t it crazy that the brands we ‘trust’ from the supermarket certainly don’t put us, as women, first (only their profits and making sanitary items look good and feel effective)… but at what cost, right?!

The industrial revolution over the past 30 years has left our bodies more toxic than ever before.

It’s only now that we are seeing the affects; such as endocrine disorders on the rise (PCOS, Endometriosis, Thyroid Issues) as well as Autoimmune Conditions and the most common… Fertility issues.

Having struggled with endometriosis myself, I am so cautious now about what I put in and on my body.

Thankfully companies have risen up to support the wave of clean, organic and natural living (amen)

There are so many options made with natural, organic and safe materials so you can ditch the added toxins like chlorine, petrochemicals, and fragrances that are right up against your most sensitive parts and being absorbed through your skin, right into your blood stream. Eek!

Annnd let’s not forget about the planet.

One pad contains as much plastic as FOUR plastic bags and according to research, 20 billion pads end up in North American landfill alone, each YEAR!

So, are you ready to make the switch?

I’ve made it as easy as possible by collating a ‘go-to edit’ of all-natural, organic and safe alternatives to mainstream brands that not only save you dollars but protect the planet at the same time.

THE ALL-NATURAL SANITARY CARE EDIT

✦ Non-Toxic Pads

✦ Non-Toxic Tampons

✦ Menstural Cups

This silicon flexible cup collects blood and when it gets full you simply empty, rinse and insert again (there are sterilisers as well). Some brands will provide up to 10 hours of protection (perfect for overnight). Best of all, they last a long time.

✦ Period Undies

These are a game-changer. Seriously, what could be easier than period underwear? This is what I use and I love them!

ModiBodi – https://www.modibodi.com (they do swimmers as well)

EnvironMenstrual – https://www.environmenstrual.com (organic cotton)

Thinx – https://www.shethinx.com/

✦ Reusable Liners/ Pads

Made from organic cotton, these toxin free re-useable pads contains no fragrances, formaldehyde, dioxins or absorption agents that often cause irritation. Each pad will last you years and although they are a little more upfront, the price per wear pays off. The Hannahpad has beautiful designs and a nifty waterproof coating on the inside to prevent leaks.

ModiBodi Period Undies are my top choice (and now there are period swimmers so no need to ever place anything foreign inside of yourself ladies) ♡

I also still have my TOM organic pads for the first ‘heavy flow’ days and nights (yes, I am yet to try the Menstrual Cup but stay tuned for my review)

With love,

Debbie x

PS: My go-to items ModiBodi have 20% off right now for orders over $120. Grab some undies or swimmers for yourself and SAVE!

Afterpay is also available. Just enter LOVEMODI20 code at check out ♡ CLICK HERE!

So find the al-natural solution that works best for you and choose to stop supporting the brands that put profit over people by using pretty marketing and advertising to sell products that contain chemicals which negatively impact our health.

the girl behind the blog

Accidental homemaker, sourdough lover and amateur 'make from scratch' cook, pursuing a path of purity in a tainted world. Also known as the 'million ideas' woman, I'm obsessed with online business and pinning images of modern homesteading.

Most importantly, I am a wife and mother navigating the lost skills of homemaking. I spent the last twelve years as an A-type over achiever striving to attain alllll the things, only to discover that destiny had a different - and much more beautiful plan. One I could have never imagined! I walked away from everything, closed down my coaching business, deleted my courses, youtube channel and every part of who I was for over a decade...then stepped out into this new way of living.

Read my story of redemption here...

Find a quiet space to enjoy your hot cuppa and settle in with a letter from my home to yours.

It's full of ideas to cultivate simplicity, peace and purpose back into your home, your heart and your family.

Thank You

It is my hope that us, as mothers, learn to love and encourage our husbands. To raise our children well and prepare them for the future to come. To have an open door and a warm cuppa, without notice, for any person in our community who needs us.

Most of all I want us to recognise this...

Within our highest calling as a mother comes a responsibility of the legacy we are leaving. What we sow into our children now, will impact the future they live in and generations to come.
