It’s always good to be on the lookout for healthier food and drink options. In my case, coffee had been my go-to drink to jumpstart my day for about 20 years!.

But when my health declined a few years back, I looked into the dangers of coffee for my ayurvedic body type and it was a no-go! (Vata Pitta), spiralling me deeper into adrenal fatigue and detoxification issues.

So I went on a path to seek a better and healthier alternative!

Ladies, meet my new beverage buddy, MATCHA.

Widely known to have originated from Kyoto, matcha was originally brought to Japan by Zen Buddhist monk, Eisai. I found this provided a nice energy lift for my mornings, without the buzz or sometimes foggy mind that coffee brings (and without any crash in energy).

So, why did I jump ship from #TeamCoffee to #TeamMatcha?

After quite a bit of research I fell in love with my coffee alternative even more so let me share it with you here:

1. Gives you healthy alertness

Most of us drink coffee to perk us up. When we need an adrenaline boost, our default is caffeine. Good news, lovelies! Matcha gives the same alertness and it lasts longer, too! It gives the kick you need with no spikes and crashes.

Matcha contains only 25-50% of caffeine compared to coffee. It also has a unique amino acid called L-theanine which allows the caffeine to be released slowly to our body. This gives you a calmer energy boost without the jitters.

2. Improves your brain function

You don’t just drink coffee to be alert, you drink it so you can function longer. What if I tell you that you can function a lot better with matcha? This unassuming drink can enhance your focus and concentration.

Research shows that drinking matcha improves your reaction time, attention span, and memory. You are not only calmly awake and alert, you are more productive, too!

3. Boosts your metabolism

This soothing drink can help you lose weight! Studies have shown that the catechins found in matcha help decrease body weight and maintain the weight loss.

Matcha is also rich in epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG), an antioxidant which boosts your metabolism, burns fat, decreases fat absorption, and lessens your hunger cravings.

4. Provides antioxidants that fight cancer

People are looking for ways to fight the big C in a non-invasive way. Matcha is one of the potent superfoods available for all of us. Its high level of EGCG, a type of catechin, has powerful anti-cancer properties.

A test tube study showed that matcha helped kill prostate cancer cells! Matcha has an extremely high antioxidant level. According to Tufts University, it has an ORAC rating of 1,573 units which is way higher than blueberry (93) and broccoli (31).

5. Detoxifies your body

The vibrant green color of matcha comes from its rich chlorophyll. Did you know that matcha bushes are protected from sunlight for 20-30 days before they are harvested? This allows the chlorophyll to increase and give it a lush, darker green color.

Matcha is a real beauty and brawn. Its chlorophyll is packed with vitamins and minerals which help in flushing out toxins. Matcha detoxifies your body by getting rid of harmful chemicals. You can boost your immune system with matcha lattes!

6. Makes your skin glow

Who wouldn’t want a drink that makes them beautiful? The high levels of EGCG found in matcha makes your skin young and healthy! It helps stop cell degeneration which causes fine lines, wrinkles, and other signs of aging as well as increasing collagen production (can it get any better!)

The antioxidant powerhouse EGCG also helps remove acne, increases skin elasticity and reduces inflammation.

I use my Matcha Powder in a face mask once every fortnight.

7. Helps your heart and liver

Matcha also helps specific organs in our body like our heart and liver. Research shows that after 12 weeks of taking green tea extract, high liver enzyme levels, which causes liver damage, were significantly reduced in the subjects tested.

Matcha also takes care of your heart by reducing your LDL or bad cholesterol levels and triglycerides. Combined with proper diet and exercise, matcha can keep your heart healthy and strong.

It’s really fascinating what this drink can do!

Matcha makes little miracles in your body, making you feel relaxed, alert, and healthy!

With love,

Debbie x

PS: I have something exciting coming to you! Matcha has impacted my life so positively that I’m brewing a little project behind the scenes, launching in 2021.

Most importantly, I am a wife and mother navigating the lost skills of homemaking. I spent the last twelve years as an A-type over achiever striving to attain alllll the things, only to discover that destiny had a different - and much more beautiful plan. One I could have never imagined! I walked away from everything, closed down my coaching business, deleted my courses, youtube channel and every part of who I was for over a decade...then stepped out into this new way of living.

It's full of ideas to cultivate simplicity, peace and purpose back into your home, your heart and your family.

Thank You

It is my hope that us, as mothers, learn to love and encourage our husbands. To raise our children well and prepare them for the future to come. To have an open door and a warm cuppa, without notice, for any person in our community who needs us.

Most of all I want us to recognise this...

Within our highest calling as a mother comes a responsibility of the legacy we are leaving. What we sow into our children now, will impact the future they live in and generations to come.
